Fire Code
The 2006 International Fire CodeŽ,
coordinated with the 2006
International Building CodeŽ, references national standards to
comprehensively address fire safety in new and existing buildings.
It provides modern, up-to-date fire code, and
addresses conditions hazardous to life and property from fire,
explosion, handling or use of hazardous materials, and the use and
occupancy of buildings and premises.
Prescriptive- and performance- based
approaches to fire prevention and fire protection systems are
emphasized.
Topics addressed include fire department
access, fire hydrants, automatic sprinkler systems, fire alarm
systems, hazardous materials storage and use, and fire safety
requirements for new and existing buildings and premises
Establishes
provisions that adequately protect public health, safety, and
welfare; does not necessarily increase construction costs; and do
not restrict the use of new materials
